It depends on how often you listen to music together. If this happens several hours a day, every day, then it could be a big stumbling block. Imagine listening to music that you don't like for that many hours a week.

However, if you have other common interests, and don't listen to music together that often, it really shouldn't matter.

Just remember - opposites attract, but they never stay together without a LOT of friction. Make sure you find someone with very similar interests to your own.

NOOO!!! I am amazed of what an issue this is...usually for guys. Woman are always willing to overlook a bad a music collection, but men on the other hand, not so much. Im going to guess your are young as well... anywhere from 15-21?? I will say this.. unless your boyfriend is in a band and music is his life, different interests in music should be acceptable.

I hope- most people are in relationships not because of someones undying devotion to xyz band, but rather because you love that person for who they are, past all the superfical layers.

The foundation of a good relationship is truth, honesty, trust and love. You do not have to like the same music but you will probably find that there are songs that you both enjoy and that will make that bridge easier to cross. I hope that helps!

No my husband likes mostly rock. I love all types of music especially dance music. He doesn't particularly care for it. but we aren't listening to music every second of our relationship.
It's just one thing. We always seem to find a happy medium in the car while traveling without ever saying a word.

no, but if you two like totally different music then you might disagree on what station to play while you're in the car together. Find a music station that you both can somewhat enjoy together.

my husband who is considerably older than me likes oldies i like rap and hip hop,and we have been together for 18 years, when we are in the car together we just dont listen to music, which is good because we actually have conversations together to pass the time so no music isn't a big factor in a good relationship

if you're asking if both you and your partner have to like the same music the answer is "no", but you have to be able to tolerate their style, or they have to be willing to use earphones. Partnerships always require negotiations.

I had a spouse who kept running around turning off the tv, the radio, the recorder, etc. and I love music, and music keeps me centered (slow music) and his actions got real irritating afterwhile.

Only if the relationship is so shallow that something like music would be an issue.

Absolutely not, my husband loves hard rock and I love country. We have been married 17 years now and we are still very much in love and have a great relationship. Good Luck
