Kinda specific answer and yet not so specific!
'Invasion' which was written by former 70's Hardy Boy and half-brother of a Partridge, Shaun Cassidy. Invasion premise is kinda like an open-source program.
The first movie in the 50's with Kevin McCarthy was called 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers.' A remake was made in the late 70's with Donald Sutherland. Both of these are superb. In the early 90's, 'Body Snatchers' with Meg Tilly, etc was another 'source' remake.
In all cases, the duplicates are biogenetic pods related to plants. I believe this is the only requirement to maintain so one can use the 'invasion' monicker.
The film 'Invasion' due out soon is a return to the original source material and has no relation to ABC's show.

I haven't seen the movie Invasion, but last year I did watch the tv show invasion ABC, it was ok, I didn't really like it to much once they started switching the days it was on. and now they cancelled it.
