My suggestion to you would be use a good nail strengthener like OPI Nail Envy, Nail Tek or Qtica Natural Nail Strengthener. Start out with two coats and 1 coat each day for seven days. At the end of the seven days take it off and apply in the same manner for another week. This process can be repeated for as long as necessary. Each night before bed, apply a dab of cuticle oil and rub in for a few seconds. This step is crucial because it replaces the lost hydration that the nail hardeners deplete. Try to stay away from nail polishes that contain Formaldehyde or Toluene. China Glaze and Zoya products are free of these chemicals. These chemicals are extremely drying and cause nails to peel and chip. I would also suggest getting a professional manicure al least once a week and try to use gloves when washing dishes or doing housework. Another thing I recommend is to stay away from anti-bacterial soaps. These tend to dry out your hands and nails.

Check out the Sally Hansen section of your local drugstore. They have all kinds of nail strengtheners out there. One that I really like is called Nail Growth Miracle. It's in a gold bottle. It's clear and you put some on every other day. It makes your nails grow really fast and strong.

This has been my problem since I have memory (many, many years). I have thyroid problems and that is one of the symptoms. I use strengtheners, calcium, etc. and they not always help. Someone recommended massaging the nails with almond oil every night. It did help a lot but I have no patience. Besides, cleaning products can be very harmful for this problem.
