That's a very good question. It belongs in the same file as "....so I turned around and said to him....." Nobody ever really 'turns around' when they are talking to someone so what's that all about too?

its so patronising when this phrase is used..it suggests u wouldn't know it goes wtithout saying unless the person saying it told you....does that make sense???
