everything is connected properly. I checked the modem & all the cords and cables. Why does this keep happening?

No, I'm on my computer now. So why is it now working if the LAN cable is unplugged? I'm online on this computer now.

Turn off PC, disconnect cables, cords, and unplug modem. Reconnect everything and restart computer, still have problems you might have bad modem.

Sounds like your interenet connection is set up improperly or was changed recently. How are you connecting to the network? Via cable modem? Dial-up modem? or DSL? It is possible if set up via DSL or cable modem you will need to reset the modem by unplugging the internet connection cable from the modem and the computer, unplugging the modem, and shutting down the computer. Leave it this way for 15 seconds then plug in the cable/DSL modem before powering it up, plug the computer connection back up, then power on the computer then power on the cable/DSL modem. Hope this helps.

There are two ends to a cable. Be sure the other end is connected to the hub/router.
Since you mention a modem, I'm wondering if you have broadband (DSL/cable). If not, then you would be getting this message from the network card installed in your system. If you do have broadband, it is possible that you may have 2 network cards in your system.
Another possibility if you are using broadband is the cable or router might be defective. It might lose connection for an instant and then restore the connection. You would see that message in this case also.

It sounds like either a bad ethernet card on your computer or a bad port at the router. Try moving the cable to another port on the router to see if that fixes it. If you don't use a router then call your ISP to see if you can replace the modem.

If you have dial up, then it's talking about a network cable. Click on my computer, then my network places, click view network connections, right click on the local area network icon, then clickon properties, uncheck both boxes on the bottom of this screen, click ok and the error should go away.

I am assuming that you are NOT connected to a LAN ?
If so in Control Panel , Find System , Find the NIC or Lan adaptor and disable it in software .
That should stop the error popping up in the System Tray

maybe one of your cable's is unplugged. Check all the cables if you can't find anything wrong and still get the same message then call the cable provider.
ps: how come you logged onto the internet?? another computer??

Are you losing your net connection when that happens? It happens to me now and then. It might be your IP address renewing itself. Try disconnecting your modem for ten seconds and then reconnect it. If that doesn't work, try a restart.

that's because you've a RJ-40 5 (ethernet) plug on your pc to plug right into a twine. it is going to continuously say that until eventually you disable the hardware. the most acceptable component to do is open your community connections and both properly click that connection and disable it or look at that connections homes and disable notification.
