Nothing.
I listen when they want to yak. :-))
Let them show you all their "stuff," and brag about it :-))
Or, I give them a good time :-)) Find out what they enjoy, and spend time doing it with them.
Happiness is not always "bought." Show them the priceless value of things that cannot be purchased: the sky; the ocean; a perfect, home-cooked meal; birdsong at dawn; wading; laughing; knowledge; fresh green grass, cool to the feet; kittens; puppies; lovemaking; fresh, crisp, untouched snow; walking through a brand-new (to them) neighborhood; massage; lovely, crunchy autumn leaves, ankle deep; skipping stones in a river; physical exercise; service to others (donate blood!); music; the view from a high, isolated mountaintop; innocent sleep, in lovely, fresh-washed sheets; learning something new, and difficult; the pleasure of truly giving to others: volunteer for a favorite cause; acceptance: love them, warts and all; absolution: teach them to forgive themselves, and others....
Joy cannot be purchased :-))

Give them a card and maybe something like candy or flowers, and most importantly, show that you're personally interested in them. Everybody likes attention no matter how much stuff they have.

A star... really, there's an international star registry where you can name a star after the person and they send you all the information on it, including its location. It's a really neat gift.

Take them out and have a good time with them. Even people that have everything never have enough time.

you give em a crappy thing. like for example, you go to their
b-day party, and you get a big box and wrap it all nice and everything, and here's the catch, don't put anything in it! lol i tried that once, after they opened it, i was laughing my a** off. or you can take one of your old things that doesn't work anymore no matter how hard you try, and you just put in the box it came in and give it to them, or even better, take one of your old things that won't work anymore, and wrap it up with really crappy and ugly paper, and wrap it like you're a two year old, no tape, just tying knots, and rip and crinkle it or something. for example, if you're giving the present to them in august, wrap it with christmas wrapping paper, or if your giving it in december, wrap it in wrapping paper that says things like: Summertime, Sun, pool, beach
with pictures of the pool beach sun bathing suits, etc.
or give them a dvd, except it be black&white, boring, etc.
also a pair of underwear would be pretty funny.
or for real funny pranks, go here! lol!!
