Yes, Project Gutenberg (at www.gutenberg.org) is by far the best place to read books online.

The problem with trying to find books online for free is that most modern-day books are still under copyright by their authors. I believe it usually remains that way for something like 70 years after they die. However, that means that many wonderful, classic books whose authors have been dead for a suitable length of time are in what is called the public domain; that is they belong to no one and everyone. This is why everyone is anxious to adapt classic works to stage and screen.

At Project Gutenberg, you can find thousands of books of various genres in one place. And they have a handy catalog that can be browsed alphabetically by author or title. Hope this helps.

Go to Baen's Books. Sign onto the website and gain access to the chat room, the bar, the forum and the site that lets you not only read free e-books but download them also. Have fun!

yes as laready stated project gutenberg is THE site as you can even download and KEEP or print or do whatever you want with all the books they are converting into TEXT files online.

other sites such as book publishers offer sample chapters and sometimes even entire books, as even amazon.com does this, but overall you would have to look at many publisher's sites to find these things, so maybe you can contact a few that you are familiar with that make books you already enjoy.

Go to the search site Google and you will find any books that you want to read, but they still do not have whole books loaded in yet.
