Yes i think they should so Honda can at least get respect by people who are always hating on them like the guy with the smart answer of "so they can stick it in there civics". Imagine a Japanese V8 that can out do almost everybody else(stock, not modified). In japan V8 are already there. but its the pride in being an underdog to them, to be able to surpass everyone. ANSWER THIS QUESTION, Who Else Makes a engine that has more than 100hp per liter, Honda(the K20a on the RSX) STock, was the first and still the last to my knowledge. Yeah the lady with the formula had a nice thing going, but she forgot this one... do the math and see if you get that special # for the viper. I would love to see Honda make a V8 that would make 100 hp per liter just to see all the other V8 lovers to get beat at there own house! by the way i love V8, four cylinders , and all engines that are fast so dont read this like I'm bias. Just like to bring down the haters

It would be nice to have an optional V8, but it is true that the company's focus is on more efficient engines. The Ridgeline comes only with a 3.5L V6, by the way.

Honda does build an 8 cylinder racing engine that has proven to be unbelievably reliable. It's used in Indycar series races. It's a 3.0L normally aspirated engine and will be replaced next year by a 3.5L engine when the series converts to 100% ethanol. Any V8 that can be pushed at 10,300 RPMs for several hundred miles with no mechanical failures is a pretty good engine, in my opinion.

If acceleration is your definition for power and why you would want a V8, consider this...

Take the fastest car you know of.... How about a Dodge Viper V10

Weight: 3,460 lbs.
Horsepower: 450
450/3460 = .13 horses per pound

Now let's look at another car...

Honda S2000:

Weight = 2835 lbs
Horsepower = 240
240/2835 = .08 horses

Now lets take a dog for comparison's sake:

Geo Metro:

Weight = 1190 lbs.
Horsepower = 55
55/1190 = .04

For more convenience you could turn it into a percent by multipling by 100.

Viper 13%
Honda 8%
Geo 4%

So, I say heck with the V8... give me an interesting car I can afford, can insure, and gets me as close to the upper end of the horsepower per pound scale I just derived. If Geo is a dog and Viper's peel your lips back, something in the middle to upper two-thirds of the scale ought to be a very fun car you can afford and live with.

Good luck!

No, they make what they are good at and thats small engines. Why make an 8 cylinder when the 4 and 6 cylinders work fine for most applications. If you want a gas guzzling 8 buy american.

the company believes in smaller and efficient engines. Having V8 engines would screw their reputation of being the most fuel efficient brand in the US.

Maybe as an option....but I thought the whole idea behind Honda vehicles is the great fuel efficiency?
