As far as the bed time; it depends on the kid. Some kids need more sleep than others. My kids can't get on the computer unless I'm home and awake. Our computer is in our living room. Kids should never have privacy while on the computer! My kids can't get on after 9pm. No cell phones or phone calls after 9pm. Bedtime can also be determined by age. The older the kid, the later the bedtime. Of course it's reasonable! You are the parent!! Take control of your child! If you don't, someone else will.

When my son was 15, he set his own bedtime. He was also responsible for waking himself up in the morning. If he slept in, his bedtime went to 10:00pm (we don't allow tv's, computers, video games in bedrooms so when he went to his room, he could read or sleep) and then gained a 1/2 hour a week so long as he didn't sleep in again. He's 19 and at college now and he finished his first year without being late or missing a single class... he was definitely the exception.

I've always tried to pair responsibility and reward... it has worked very well for us.

Our other rule is, they get to use the computer/tv/games after their homework is finished. I don't ask or check homework but if there is a note about missing assignments from school, they're banned from computer/tv/games for a full week. Second infraction is two full weeks. We haven't had to think of what's needed for a third because our oldest only had it happen twice and our youngest saw what happened to him and hasn't ever done it *lol*

Depends on what time you have to get up. You should try and get 6 to 8 hours of sleep. Say if you have to wake up at 7 then you should try to hit the sack around 10:30 or 11. I say that you should be allowed to use the phone and computer but atleast one hour before your bedtime.

Depends on when they have to get up. I'd set bed time 8 or 9 hours before the alarm goes off.
Also, I'd put time limits on phone and IM or say it's okay after homework and chores are done. I wouldn't say NO phone or computer. Do keep an eye on what goes on while on the computer-keep computer out in the open (living room, kitchen etc.-not in a bed room or closed office).

You're the parent. That is the most important thing to remember. Bedtimes depend on how early they get up, and how much sleep they need. Teenagers need a lot more sleep than most of them get. And it is aboslutely reasonable to say no to phone or computer. Limit setting something everyone needs to learn in life. Sit down with your child and create a plan you can both live with. Allowing him or her to be a partner in creating the boundaries will help them accept them, and will help you reinforce them because they created/agreed to them. Nevertheless, none of this is easy. Good luck!

Meh. I stay up way to late, I wish my mom did that( I stay on the computer way to long ,yeah I admit it)..lol I'd say 10 is pretty reasonable. For the phone i'd say never, but thats just cause I hate the phone, lol. But most teens talk on it for hours, I think you should limit that time for like 3 hours all day and your phone bill might go down :D

I would say lights out at 9:45. Computer out at 9 to start getting ready for bed and prepare for school the next day. Phone stays downstairs with me.

Well you have to decide whether you are going to be a parent or a "reasonable" buddy...
...9pm bedtime, Sunday through Thursday...
Phone and computer "privileges" at "your" discretion...
