It is a shag type rug made with leather strips. I need to know how to vaccum it without tearing it up or blowing up my vaccum cleaner. I have a dog that sheds horribly twice a year and well, this is one them!

I would suggest using a brush attachment, rather than the heavy part of the vacuum. If it's small enough, you might be better off taking the rug frequently to shake it out outside.

Vaccum with out the rollers on. Regular stores like Walmart, Kmart, Meijers, etc will carry a vaccum that only sucks dirt with out roller that will tangle your leather strips. It is really cheap.
