The person above has it right. My walls are paper thin and I can hear everything and my neighboors can hear me. I have no privacy. And you can't play your tv and stereo loud

Thin walls, no yard to have a social gathering in, no driveway for friends to park off the street, snouty neighbors who change often.

in an apartment, the apartment people will take care of the lawn, shoveling snow and such. in a flat or house, you will have to do all that stuff. its like owning, only you don't own it!
