Windows ME is a howling mangy mongrel mutt of an opsys. It's basically win2000 which is basically NT which is horrible. Can you get rid of it? Go backwards to 98 if the spec is low, or forwards to XP if the spec is half decent.

It would seem that your computer has a Pentium 3 ...600Mhz or 700Mhz processor.
1. I have used WinMe..it is notorious as the worst operating system ever to hit the market..Change it. It will play havoc with your computer & give you endless problems.
2. If you can put 512 MB of ram in the computer then go for XP
I run XP on a pentium3 with 512MB ram...(it was impossible with the original 128MB of ram)
3. If you don't want to increase the ram then put win 98se in it.

Good luck & by the way Thinkpads are not all bad..I am writing this on a Thinkpad :-)

This may help!...

Does it hang while displaying "press F1 to enter setup, F12 to change boot device" and waits forever ... pressing F1 or F12 or any other key (except pressing power button for some seconds) doesn't change anything.
Try this..(if your happy to do it!) remove the battery, unplug the power supply connector while the Thinkpad is on (that is: simulate a hard "power fail"), wait 3-4 seconds, plug the power supply again (don't insert the battery).

It could be some energy-saving issue. In the BIOS setup menu Iignore the "Customized" options of the "power" settings; use "Maximum Performance" for both battery and AC-driven setups. and then switch to "Maximum Performance" for AC-driven and "Maximum Battery" for battery.

could be a dead processor. Try putting in a windows CD and see if it will load off it.
