Dream Theater. Along with his self-titled projects, he was also a member of Liquid Tension Experiment. This side-project included Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, keyboardist Jordan Rudess - who, at the time, was not a member of Dream Theater, and bassist Tony Levin - who has played with artists such as: King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, ABWH, Cher, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, John Lennon, Alice Cooper, Chuck Mangione, Buddy Rich, Neil Sedeka, and many, many more.
Liquid Tension Experiment released two excellent albums. These were simply titled 1 and 2.

John has been involved in quite a few different projects under various names including his own name with a revolving list of backing players , but most people know him as a member od Dream Theater.
