I'm looking for a job, There aren't to many around where I live. I put an application into Fashion Bug 2 weeks ago, they said they would be hiring soon, I haven't heard anything yet, should I call? Since I still interested? I do want a receptionist/secretary job. Should I call places to see if they are hiring? I've looked in the paper and almost everything is a long drive. Just want some input Thanks!

You should always check in with the companies you apply too.

But, never call asking if a place is hiring, you should make an appearance and ask for the manager, and speak with them to see if they are hiring.

If they were interested they would have called.Retail is a tough racket to get into and the pay is insulting low.Why not just go for the job that you really want to have?It could be a door into a better future. Lots of people start off as receptionists and move up in companies.I'm only telling you this after working in retail as a young woman and getting real about it one day. Those kinds of jobs lead to nowhere for a talented young lady like yourself.Never wait around for a company to call you. They're telling you how they'll treat you after you work there which means , not very considerately. Talk to as many people as you can and fill out a ton of applications. Rest assured that one of them will want to hire you. Good luck.

I called around when I was a teen since I didn't have transportation to get around and go searching for a job. You could call Fashion Bug back (great store by the way!) and let them know that you are still interested. If they aren't hiring right now, at least they will know that you are eager to get a job there sometime in the future. Good Luck!

Sure it's ok to call... Think of it this way: If they don't know about you, they can't call you... so, you need to let them know you're interested and who you are... When you do call, understand that they probably only have a minute to spend with you initially... so, be prepared to tell them what you're looking for and what your background is... and do all that in about 20 seconds...

Another idea for you is to just go to the places you're interested in and drop off your resume/fill out an application... in many ways, that is better because they'll see you in person and you have an opportunity to make a good first impression....

Bottom line, call them.... and call back the Fashion Bug people to see if they're started the hiring process yet! They may have forgotten about you!

I don't see anything wrong with calling to see if they are hiring...although you may have better luck if you actually go in person to meet a manager. As far as FB goes, I would imagine that they would be hiring soon. I worked in retail for a long time and it seems like most places start hiring for the holidays around this time to get the employees trained and ready for peak season. Good luck to you on that.

Another option is to try something different. You could try the Pampered Chef! Fun, flexible, low-risk, great products...it works with many different lifestyles (part-time, full-time, seasonal). I've been doing it since Feb. 2005, and I love it!

I'd love to tell you more if you're at all interested!

Most companies do not advertise jobs. They get internal recommendations or use agencies. I would send resumes and a cover letter to every company you are interested in working for. Do not ask for an application but describe how you can help the company. Companies want people who can make money for them. If they are interested they will send you an application or call you in for an interview.

Get off your duff and go there! People want to see a face and the very fact that you are there seeking employment is attractive to them as well. Make sure you don't go empty handed either. Take your resume and cover letter with you. Believe it or not...hiring someone for a certain position is not their biggest priority. This is why it takes awhile for businesses to respond. They also are interviewing other people. Out of respect...two weeks is a good amount of time to wait. Certainly go back and see where they stand on making a descision. It doesn't hurt to let them know that you are interviewing with other places, but would prefer this position.

It can't hurt to call. The worst thing that could happen is they won't hire you... which they aren't going to do if you don't call them. I know it can be a little intimidating, but a lot of places want someone who has the drive to seek out work, and a lot of jobs aren't posted anywhere.

Definitely. You don't want to keep calling them, but I think one follow-up call is very acceptable. And it's also fine to call a company to see if they're hiring. If they're not hiring now, ask them if they expect any openings in the future. Good luck!
