I have ants, some uncles too, that walk like they are drunk, because they are!

When they are first setting out from their nest to find food they do so in a "scattering" walking pattern (kind of like when humans do a search for a lost whatever) and this makes them look "drunk". As the ant travels it lays down a trail of pheremones.

When the ants find the food they follow their own pheremone trail back to the nest. Any other ant finding the trail will also follow it, and add their own trail to it to reinforce the fact there is food to be found.

Hey, you try keeping track of six legs after a few drinks!

Actually, they follow the scent of other ants, so they're constantly trying to locate the path and stay on it.

I don't mean to stereotype but ants are notorious drunks.
