elements are the "purest" forms of matter....
a compound is made from combinations of elements....

O (oxygen) is an element, also a single atom
O2 is a molecule of oxygen, made of two atoms of oxygen

C O2 is a compound of carbon and oxygen (one carbon atom with 2 atoms of oxygen)

an element is formed for all the different atoms with equal Z (i.e. atomic number= proton). So the element Hydrogen is a mix of protio, deuterio and tritio, the three hidrogen isotopes. Each one of then has a pretty constant abundancy

Sometimes, perhaps,....so called "Scientific Theory" about the elements, energy ,ect. is really just subjective beliefs of what appears to be so, but in time is proven to be nothing but personal beliefs and not "unrefutable and unquestionable facts of 'inerrant reasoning' " , as some Egos may portray these realitites to be , at times.....in time and space ..........;-)...... ps. i have only a G.E.D. ! so take this ALL with a grain of sodium chloride !

Learning about them won't make us richer, poorer or enhance our lives. They were here before we got here and will be here after we leave. In fact, since matter cannot be destroyed and atom is the smallest unit of matter..the very atoms that make up your body are billions of years old..we are ancient.
