It is not meant as a compliment or put down. It is impossible for one to be aware of your mixed heritage. They are merely describing what they think you are based on your complexion and physical attributes.

I would agree with neither...I'm hispanic, mexican, latino, chicano(whichever title you want to use) but everyone thinks I'm Korean, just because of my skin tone and eyes.
I don't consider it a complement or insult...makes me mysterious and causes people to have conversations with me all the time. It's become a way for me to meet new people.

Why would you feel that it may be an insult? Unless you feel that hispanics are an unattractive bunch....you'd be wrong....It's just a curiosity... some people find it interesting when they come across people of different heritages, especiallly, when they can't quite figure out which one...people of mixed heritages usually have exotic features that others find intriguing.....

Neither really. They just see your skin tone as a Hispanic trait, don't take it personally. People think my brother is Hispanic, but really is 1/3 Italian, lol..so yeah, don't worry about it.

I wouldn't be affended by it. I imagine that you have beautiful skin. I always have said that it looks like chocolate milk. I would however make sure that my heritage was known by sayin something like " Thank you but you know I am actually half Indian(clarify which(like india or native american) and half caucasion"

I don't think of it as a compliment or an insult. Just an observation. It's not what your bloodline is but, what you are. If it bothers you, just correct them and say what you are. Just don't blow it out of proportion. Too many other things to worry about.

Why would you look at any race and ask if it is a complement. We are all equal. Be proud of your heritage no matter what it is.

While you know what you are .. other people might not.. i guess the only way you deal with this is by corecting them.. i am cuban .. and people say things like that to me.. so i understand where you are coming from.. just respectfully correct them!

It just a guess based on your appearance. It is neither a compliment nor an insult.
