1337 aka 14 means LEET. as in Elite. Awesome. Superior. It's often used in pc online video games, for they have their own jargon. Often the chronic video game users / addicts use their jargon outside of the pc environment due to the fact that they're usually playing the mmorpgs or online multiplayer games so often, that it becomes a part of themselves, and their natural language.

l337 is computer shorthand for "leet", which is shorthand for "elite".
Other variations include 1337, l33t, 31337, etc.
It's most commonly used to describe someone who is very skilled at a certain technology-related task.
Eg. Whoever got past my computer's security must have been a 1337 hacker.

it's a tease.. a brag on someone's gaming skill.
someone to say leet to you just ignore them and beat the crap out of them in the game that you are playing with them online.
