Are they equivalent to the duties of the president of the USA?

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the de facto head of Her Majesty's Government and so exercises many of the executive functions nominally vested in the Sovereign, who is head of state and the theoretical source of executive power in the British government. According to custom, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet (which he or she heads) are accountable for their actions to Parliament, of which they are members by (modern) convention.

The President of the United States of America (often abbreviated POTUS) is the head of state of the United States. In the U.S. Constitution, the President is also the chief executive of the federal government and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.

Hi SassySours, a Prime Minister has the prime responsibility of running the country and above all controlling a herd of Ministers! If his control slips, it could lead to chaos as now happening in Britain where several junior ministers have left the government!

Yes, the duties are more or less similar to that of the President of a country, like USA!

Cheers and keep smiling!

Yeah, pretty much. He's about the same as the president- the chief executive figure of a democratic government, responsible for signing and enacting laws & bills created by a legislature, corresponding and interacting with foregn heads of state, and commanding the nation's civil and military forces.
