I'm Irish, I'm a not a fighter, but yes, I like to drink. I have yet to find a fellow Irishman who is offended by The Fightin' Irish, even those who aren't fans.
Pull something like this on game day in the middle of a packed stadium and yes, I will guarantee that there will be some Fightin' going on.
I would like to see all of these politically correct people get UND to change their name. The same goes for any sports team. It is just another thing to complain about.
May the Golden Dome fall on your head and knock some sense into 'ye. Kiss my Blarney Stone, 'ye idiot!!!!
Cheers!!!

I am tired of all of the Political Correctness. If we put all that wasted energy into fixing real problems we'd be better off. It seems the liberal democrats are more offended by the Redskins name than the Indians. (Yes I said Indians, not Native Americans). Maybe we should change the NY Yankees name because the Rebs are offended in the South. Or the NO Saints because it depicts religion. They had to change the name of the Wasshington Bullets to the Wizards because someones feelings were hurt. Give me a break.

Because nobody cares. A 2003 Pew survey found that 83% of Indians do not find the Washington Redskins to be offensive. They also found that over half prefer to be called "Indians" and not "Native Americans". Besides, how does having your mascot, something that represents the embodiment of your team's spirit, as an Indian consitute that hatred that racism connotes? If anything, it just goes to show how much respect people have for Indians that they would identify themselves as such.

I don't think that calling Notre Dame the Fighting Irish is racist, I think what is happening here is that the Irish are looked at as nothing but fighters. That is what the argument is. It is more of stereotyping than racism. If is was just the Irish is would be fine.

That is a stupid question, and your a smelly canadian.
They are not being deroggatory , when using the name, they are doing it to honor them. It it was negative, then would players want to use it, would people want to work for the organization, would they have any fans? If it was negative like the Washington Idiots, then people would be offended, and not support it. But instead the native americans are honored and feel a sense of pride that a mulitmillion dollar successful organization named and modeled themselves after them. Your question was retarded

They call the Irish "Fighting" because they`ve been fighting against an oppresive English rule for over 800 years. If the stupid British would just leave Ireland we could all get back to drinking!!

This has been the subject of a long debate with Native Americans. I think they finally came to a compromise, or a stanstill. Anyway, the name hasn't changed.

Get a life d*ckhead!! Too bad a sports team has a name that offends you, Did you know that A LOT of Native Americans feel honored with a sports franchise named after them, especially the college teams. I've never heard them say they were offended. Oh yeah and I'm Irish, proud of it, and love the fact there is a football team that represents the Irish people.
