enlisted or officer? the pay scale is the same based on paygrade whether you are a cook or a tank driver. witha degree you can enlist upto E4(Army Only). E3 for Navy, CG and AF, E2 for Marines. the degree itself will NOT be competitive for an officer slot in any branch but the Army, however. and in fact the degree will do you no good whatsoever . what jobs you are offered are based upon your ASVAB score and what is available the day you choose your MOS.

I doubt that many sociology majors work in their field.
To be honest, it was always the degree we made fun of when I was in college.
But I suppose that it might help for jobs in sales (even those that don't offer fries). Law school or an MBA are always a possibility if they want to learn somehting practical.
