I am addicted to Days of our Lives and I have no idea why. I sit and watch it whenever I get the chance, but I am screaming at the TV the whole time because they are so stupid. The plot is always the same, you know what is going to happen, and the acting is horrible. I get so tired of people dying and coming back to life. Everyone on the show has had amnesia atleast 10 times, and their brother, is their cousin, is their husband, and so on. Recently on Days, Will stood up at his mothers wedding and said something like, "I am so glad that my Uncle Austin is going to be my new dad." How messed up is that? I watch them because even though I know what is going to happen, I want to see the drama. I don't know. It makes my life seem a little more ordinary, I guess. Kind of like, even though you watch scary movies through your fingers, you just have to see what happens to your favorite character. Good question.

60-80 years ago before television when most women stayed home to cook and clean, they listened to radio. sometime time early on soap companies like IRORY wanted to boost their company sales and they knew that the majority of people who listened in a radio during the day were women who would buy their products. So the soap company got together with an ad agency and started telling soap ads on air with a touch of drama occasionally dropping hints about buying their soap. Hence, where the word "Soap opera" comes from. Eventually when television became big the "SOAPS" continued with the drama, but dropped the hints to buy what was originally intended, soap.

To my knowledge the reason that we have soaps is that they started off as a advertising campaign for a soap company. The reason why we need to watch them is because we cant help knowing other peoples miss fortune

Soaps are like a little microcosm of life, its like they take out all the neutral and indifference out of life so they are left with the extremes of love, hate, happiness and despair and it interests us! people have and always will be interested and entertained by human behaviour. The only concern i have is society's disposition to the negative side, some people always seem to prefer bad things to happen to other people than good and that's not healthy surely?

Why they were put on TV I don't know, maybe just to give them something to do? Like actors, who are not good enough for big screen. We watch them 'cos they are there but if they disappear I doubt if the majority of us would miss them. It would be more of a relief...

They are meant to reflect life, maybe we can relate to some of the issues, but having saying that alot of the story lines are far fetched.
Certain issues are brought up to make you sit and think if only real lifes was as easy to sort out.

i think soap operas are a waste of time. i hate them and i never watch them because they are boring. i beleive the reason why we have soap opears is because the idiots who came up with them assume it would make compulsive viewing and the audience would alp them up, when really they have proved to be lame and crap.
