I would imagine that Jan. or Feb. would be more economical, I used to live in Minnesota so I don't mind cold weather. (besides, I would spend most of my time in the coffee shops anyway.)

depends on WHERE you are visiting? some places winter is the peak season (such as ski resorts). others naturally is summer.

even others it does not really matter! because there is NO winter! (like where I am)

No, not really, maybe just a bit.
If you want to stay in coffeeshops, why not visit Rotterdam or Utrecht or other city's in the Netherlands.... those places are all cheaper then Amsterdam, and good fun too. Visit Amsterdam just for a couple of days and then go to an other Dutch city... the country is small enough to travel quick.

Cheaper to visit WHERE?? Vacation areas in the South or in the West Indies are far more expensive in the winter than in the summer which is considered their down time. On the other hand ski resorts in the winter are also very expensive compared to the summer because summer is also their downtime. Consult a travel agent and ask where it may be inexpensive to travel in the winter.

Chow!!

depends where you're visiting, aspen wouldn't be cheaper but disney would. just stay away from thanksgiving and christmas weeks because lots of people travel so although hotels may be cheaper, flights won't necesarily be. Check JetBlue.com and if you become a member, they'll tell you which are peak travel times and you'll earn points towards future flights with them when you register online. I love them, I always travel JetBlue but they have limited airports from being so new (you can fly to Tampa, not Miami etc.)
