Will soap lyse bacteria in the same way it can cause lysis of cells without a cell wall, or does the cell wall provide some protection? Is there a difference between gram negative and gram positive cells in how they react to soap?

It will lyse some, and you are right that certain capsule arrangements are more resistant than others. However, as most people point out, it really just washes the bacteria off our skin. Check out the links if you wish to know more about soap and bacteria.

Actually not really....My micro prof in undergrad would always say they just go on a soapy ride.....the key to lysis is wiping your hands...the mechanical stress of wiping your hands can lyse/kill bacteria
