I would like to hear everyone's opinion on what you would do to help out our Welfare system. Honest question open to everyone. All ideas are welcome. It doesn't have to be a complete plan, but what would you like to see changed, added, or remain the same? What steps do you think we can take to lower the amount of welfare recipients?

Some really good ideas.

I would definatley make it more Workfare the Welfare. I think these people should be required to do volunteer work for the country or go to school to get some experience in a field. These programs are available but since it is not required of them, most do not take advantage of it.

There should be a time limit on how long a person can receive Welfare. I think that 3 years is a good maximum. With your case being reveiwed every 3 months.

There is a big problem with how they remove benefits based on how much you make. The problem is that they pull the rug out from under you too quick causing you to stay within the system. It needs to be pulled out much slower.

There is a big problem with fraud in the system. Too many people getting help when they don't need it, they just have a job off the books and it's hard to prove they have an income.

to be continued

The case workers. I have experienced these people. They can be lazy. VERY LAZY. We need to hire MORE workers, temporarily (because if we were able to cut the amount of people receiving, we won't need as many workers in the long run). And we need to make sure that they are doing their job. A better system of Checks and Balances needs to be established.

If you are NOT here legally you should NOT be allowed Welfare. No medical, no food stamps, no living costs, no rent paid. This will not only cut down the amount of money being spent on Welfare, but it will open up doors to people who need it and can't get it because the system is clogged up. As well as lessen the desire for people of different countries to come here and live here illegaly.

In addressing the Welfare system we need to target 4 main areas.

1) Welfare should not be a lifetime entitlement - We are a rich country and no one should every go hungry, but able bodied people should also not be allowed to spend their lives not working. Welfare payments should have a set time limit, although there should be a caveat built in which allows for extreme case exemptions.

2) Job Training - In order for people to re-enter the workforce they must have marketable skills. We need job training to prepare early workers, and also to re-train displaced workers to find new positions.

3) Daycare - Unfortunately we have a society where it has become acceptable to have children out of wedlock. More children = more money, this has to stop. However, we cannot reasonably expect mothers with children to first find jobs, then continue to hold them down without someone to watch their children. This need should be addressed on a case by case basis, in instances where there is another family member who could reasonably provide this support then no assistance would be provided, but in other cases we should provide daycare services for a set amount of time in order to allow the worker to establish themself. A caveat on this could be that daycare services be continued for these people for extended periods at a lower cost than traditional daycare.

4) Fraud - We must address fraud in the system, and we cannot be afraid to prosecute offenders. Asking people to obey the law is not racist.

Welfare is a great aid to those in need too bad some take advantage of it.

Education - Public Service - Proof of Employment

Those on welfare need to provide one of the 3 to be eligable. Also there should be a limit on how much welfare you can collect.

Education - Provide proof of attendance and grades to the welfare office to continue being eligable for welfare assistance. With an education people will most likely get a better paying job.

Public Service - They need to provide a certain amount of hours a week to public services to continue being eligable for welfare.

Employment - They need to provide proof such as phone numbers of employers where they have tried to get a job to continue being eligable for welfare. Welfare offices will investigate the sources to make sure they did try and find a job.

Time limit - Instead of giving welfare on an endlessly, set a time limit, such as after a year, they cannot collect welfare anymore, this will motivate people to better themselves knowing that after a year they won't get money and will have to make money somehow.

It's just a thought.

1.) Make sure that everyone who want a job that pays a reasonable living wage can get one.

2.) Make sure that there is adequate training to match the development level of the people who are being trained.

3.) Make sure that the business community is responsive to people's needs.

4.) Get the ideologues out of positions of authority and make sure that the people who are in such positions are actually interested in the people they are working with.

5.) Remove the condescending and lazy case workers out of the system, or retrain them.

6.) Don't view the person asking for help as the enemy.

7.) Respect for all citizens.

If you are referring to a USA welfare system, as I guess you are?

I would say, cut it all out and use the money we save as a Nations to make a decent private health care system

Also with that saving lower the tax on the workers so they could afford to take care of there own people in need, in the end we pretty much already are, since they rip us all off on high taxes?

If we cut the welfare off, most lazy people would actually have to work instead of leaching off others

As for the people who can't work, they become their family's responsibility, as they already are anyhow!

Put a cap on how many years you can receive money from the tax payers. Maybe one year is good. If you cant find a job (any damn job will do you mooch) in a year then your screwed. People who take advantage of the welfare system should be sent to mexico and never allowed back in.

I think it should be cut out all together. My husband and I both work, so why can't these people!!! If you have 2 or more children and you are on welfare you should be FIXED. I stopped at one child cause I can only afford one child. Our tax money should help the elderly and the disabled (I mean the really disabled). Everyone can work we need is a good job placement program.

The Bahamas had an interesting system...last time I was down there. They try for "zero unemployment" by having people in every department of the grocery helping you with whatever you need. Not "the" answer but they sure put a lot of people to work...

End welfare entirely. That will require people to work, regardless of what they do. Street will be cleaner, lawns, etc. Wages will come down because of competition in the labor force. Unions would shut down because they couldn't defend their existence.

If we arm most people then there wouldn't be criminal activity...like what was done in the west. If a coward thinks you and your friends are armed, he won't try to rob you.

It would be the greatest thing we could do.

Let's have the welfare recipients do the jobs that illegal immigrants are doing today. Workfare seems like a good idea to me.
