Bleach and a scrubbing pad. You might want a breather also.

The first step to controlling mold growth is to remove the source of moisture that lets it live. Might be a roof leak or a plumbing leak or just the humidity is too high. Nothing you can do will make mold go away if there is moisture available. That said, clean the surface mold off using a 10% bleach solution. Sponges or rags you use should be thrown away after. Next when the bleach solution has dried give the area a good coat of paint, some sealer like Kilz works well.

Perhaps you should cut out a small piece of the ceiling to find out where the moisture is coming from in the first place. If there is a leak above (for example, in a bathroom) the mold will continue to return and get worse. You have to remove the source of the mold before you clean it off the ceiling. It will just come back.

Try first a bleach solution with clean cold water and let dry completely also wear a painters or appropriate breathing mask. Once you are satisfied and are seeing the mold disappear follow-up with a mold resistant water base paint (apply a minimum of two coats) and let dry for at least 24-hrs. before painting on your final wall color. More importantly find out what caused the stain is there plumbing behind the wall or a leaking vent that is allowing rain water to travel and settle out in the area that you are seeing mold. Check it out first!
Best to ya!

Bleach is the only thing I've found to remove mold. I suggest removing everything from the closet, spraying the mold with a spray bottle full of bleach. Let it dry completely (a fan can speed thsi process). Paint over the stain with Kilz primer then with paint.

You should really find the source of the wet celing that is causing the modl in the closet seling. After you have found that fixed it I would use a bleach water solution and stiff brush to clean the ceiling. If the modl has pentrated the dry wall then you should remove the dry wall and replace it with new.

you can use bleach to scrub it off the walls.
find out where the down spouts are draining to, if they are running right down the side of the house instead of away from it the water might be directed right to the basement.
get a dehumidifier to help dry out the basement. open any windows and set up fans to help circulate the air.
don't put any paint or sealer on the walls, it will just hold in the moisture and eventually the paint will bubble out.
basement walls are ment to 'breath' a little so it's okay to feel a little coolness from the walls.
if you are renting, see what your land lord is willing to do, maybe they will pay for the material if you do the work

do you know what kind of mold it is? some mold is very dangerous and you have to get a professional to remove the drywall. if it's not dangerous, then you can either replace the drywall yourself or sometimes you can paint over it with kilz primer and it won't bleed back through.
