1) Check for spyware. Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.
2) Check that you have a least 10% of your hard drive free. Go to My Computer and right click on the Local Drive (C:). Look at the properties. If it has less that 10% free space, you will need to delete some files, or move them off the hard drive and on to a CD or DVD. Start by running the disk cleanup, which will remove temporary and other unneeded files. Go to Start, then All Programs, then System Tools and click the Disk Cleanup icon.
3) Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.
4) Defrag the hard drive. Go into My Computer and right click on the Local Drive (C:). Select Properties and go into the Tools tab. Click the Defragment Now button to start the defrag program. If you have not defrag recently (or never) it may take several hours for the program to complete.

You need to check for Viruses, Spyware, Adware, Malware and Trojans.
It is not good just using the one or two programs to do this as each program has differnet capabilities. You should use several if you can, some are free others you need to pay for.
I personaly use, Bitdefender, Spyware Doctor, Trojan Remover, Adaware, Eidos, Wintask and Advanced System Recovery, never seems to fail to clean up the mess.
Also you could try cleaning out your Temp folder, your Temp Internet File folder and your prefetch folder if you are running XP.
Hope this helps.

First you need to clear all your cookies, history and all the files and things that you can clear from the internet options window.
Then use adaware and spybot (both!) and remove everything that it says has spyware. If you have Kazaa or Morpheus remove those too, they come with pleanty of spyware.
After you've removed all of the above, set your computer to defrag. You may need to do it more than once. My husband worked on his buddy's laptop for 3 hours one day because it took 6 or 8 rounds of defraging to get it running back at normal speed again.

You may need memory. Scan for adware, try download.com and get spybot search and destroy and Adaware. Clean your comp out with defrag and delete temporary files, history, cookies, and all in your browser. Try Tools, Internet Options, delete all unnecessary files.
Good luck.

You said you scanned for viruses....did you scan for adware also? You need special software separate from virus scan software for that. (Lava soft.com) Also make sure that you go under your control panel and under computer maintenance, dump temporary files and also defrag your computer if needed.
