Is there any virus protection software that is free for download from the internet?

Go to www.download.com
Search on AVG Antivirus
Download and install the AVG program.
It's has detected an attempted virus install for me a couple of times and I like the fact that it check your incoming email for viruses also (I use Outlook Express as my primary email).
I tried Avast also and wasn't happy with it. I feel AVG performs better.
