It is because in the UK we believe in democracy. This means Government of the people by their consent. We also have a long tradition that the Prime Minister is the first among equals in the cabinet of Ministers, neither dictator nor president and rarely overruling or plain ignoring the advice of his fellow Ministers, party members and the general public.

Blair rightly stands accused of being presidential in style and arrogantly oblivious to the will of the public. The UK public from the very beginning were against British involvement in Iraq and latterly were simply staggered by Blair's lapdog acquiescence to Bush's blindly pro-Israel stance over the tragedy in Lebanon.

Now he must pay the price of his arrogant dictatorial style. That's how (and why) our system of democracy works.

The Brits were whining about John Major and the Tories, and couldn't wait to replace them with Blair and a Labor government.
Now that Blair's showing some integrity and supporting Bush when America needs England's help, a sizable part of the population there wants to cut and run.
They have short memories. Who bailed them out 60 years ago?

England better wake up soon - the Islamic threat that is attacking the USA has been festering in their country for years.

There will be more train bombings.

The British people believe the Downing Street Memos. They believe that invasion of Iraq was a war of choice based on the lies of Bush and Cheney and they are mad as hell for Blair's having gotten them involved.

Yep, for the same reason I'm so mad at John Howard. Only I hate Howard more since he's not a socialist.
