I have a Master of Fine Arts degree (M.F.A.) in painting which qualifies me to teach art on the university level. - so I have experience with teaching.
During the last year I have twice been asked if I am an 'English-As-A-Second-language' teacher (here after refered to as 'EASL' ).
For example - one time I was having my nails done by a lovely young woman who was new to America and who was trying to learn English and she and I got to talking a bit and I found that I was doing a a good job of communicating and I even drew a quick line drawing to illustrate the word she was trying to understand (remember I am a painter so I draw all the time),
Well, while all this was happening this other lady next to me turned and asked :

"Do you teach EASL ?"

I said no I did not - then she said :

"Well you'd be good at it -I teach EASL"

Then she told me that you don't have to speak the language(s) that aren't English.

So how could I do this ?

Hi Miss, it's called ESL (English as a Second Language). Yes, you can teach ESL with your educational background and previous experience. Just apply and you'll be accepted!

John Wharton wrote a good book a while ago called "Teaching English in Asia". I read it and taught in Taiwan. It was fun, and I didn't take any classes on how to teach English as a second language.
