I have at least four that need remedial work after becoming twisted and 'fernoxed' over the years. How could I overcome this without spending money. I've tried kicking the bottom of the door but this doesn't help by any appreciable amount.

Great name for a tribute band eh, Twisted Doors ?

You need to take them down and lay then flat on the floor, prop up one corner and weigh down the top so its slightly further than straight, if you get my drift. Leave it for a few weeks.

If that fails, you're into rebuilding them which, unless you are a furniture maker ( which you're not because you're asking this question ) is too expensive. Unless they are worth thousands.

Have not a CLUE about fernoxed but there isn't much help for doors that are warped except new ones or learn to live with them. One thing you might try is adjusting the stops to conform to the warped door rather than being plumb and square.

Depending on the extent of warping, and direction of warp, hinges and stops can be moved to accomidate a better parallel, assuming the stops are removable. Does the door, when closed, touch only the top or bottom of the latchside stop? If so your parallel is incorrect. This can sometimes be correct by moving the top or bottom hinge in or out slightly to compensate. Keep in mind when doing this, you may have to move your stop on the hinge side so the door doesn`t bind on it.

Sorry, new doors needed - once the wood warps, it will always try to return to it's twisted state no matter what you do.
If you don't want to spend any money try trawling through any skips you see - there always seems to be a door and a sofa in all of them!

Sand the door down in the area it is warpedand leave it outside to get wet - once wet weigh the door down flat and keep spraying it to keep it damp (take the handles off before you try to flatten it) - - i think it would take about a week to sort itself out

Ensure when you are drying the door out you keep it in its flat position or it will warp again as one side dries out quicker than the other.

Good luck hope it helps (try just one door first in case it doesnt work for you)

You can't solve this problem by kicking the door ! The doors need to steamed and clamped to untwist them, it will be far cheaper to buy new doors.
