When changing from a personal checking to a joint checking, you should know that the person you are adding to the account has the same rights to the account that you do. So if they want to go pull all the money out of the account, they can do so at any time. Be sure that you trust the person you are adding. Though even trusting someone doesn't necessarily mean they can't surprise you. Just beware. Oh, and if you end up wanting to take them off, the person has to be there to sign and give their authorization to be taken off. Every bank has it's rules. Just ask your banker.

Yes you may change a personal account to a joint account. It might be necessary to have the joint account holder physically present with you when you approach the bank to make the change.

You'll have to ask your bank, but going from a single to a joint shouldn't be a problem, but going back probably would be.

Yes. You will need to fill out the appropriate paperwork with your bank to make the switch on your account, and then you will have to reorder checks with the proper account "owners" on them.

Most banks allow you to add someone to your account, but do not allow you to take someone off. You are usually required to close the account and reopen another one to take someone off.
