Why is GMail by invitation, only?
I guess Google wants to add a touch of exclusivity to it.

what's so great about it?
It's slow to load (when you sign in) initially, but once you are in, its blazingly fast, to reply to an email you dont have to load another page, all you have to do is click reply and the reply "box" pop right down.

I like it's uncluttered look the most, also the complete absense of graphical ads makes it cleaner.

The invitation is to help cut down on people using GMail for unsavory purposes. I like GMail, but makes it hard to connect with others since most people are on YIM. It will get better once more people find out about it.

Personally, I like the way the mail pages are organized and the speed of messaging.

It also has a pretty huge mailbox. That's why I got one. It also has free POP access, Yahoo doesn't.

I don't know why they do the invitation thing. Initially I thought it would be a limited time thing for the inviting to keep the startup a little slower.

like he stated the attachment time is great you get more space, and its alot more quicker and i feel secure
