I'm 40 and expecting my third child. If you've had a baby later in life, what was it like? How did people react? How was the recovery? I'd love to hear your stories! Thanks!

I think its great. Congratulations, I dont think anyone should think anything bad about a mom expecting in their 40's. I think its commendable.
How far along are you?

Since you've already had 2 children, you know a lot about it.
The "issues" come many years later. My Dad (last of 6 children) and my girl cousin (last of 4 children), both suffered by being the "baby" of the family. They were both also the sole emotional prop of their mother, who favored them in all things---this made them feel responsible for HER happiness, and made their older siblings jealous. Both Mothers were a little too "obsessed" with the youngest child (who were both sweet, adorable people), and found it impossible to let go, even when they were married, had children, and had moved out of town.

I AM 41 NOW SOON TO BE 42 IN NOVEMBER. MY BABY IS 14 MONTHS. THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE PREGNANCY I HAD A RAPID HEARTBEAT WHICH WAS VERY SCARY. I STAYED NAUSEOUS FOR ABOUT FIVE MONTHS AND LIGHTHEADED. TIANA AND I ARE DOING FINE. SHE IS VERY HEALTHY. I DID NOT LET THEM GIVE ME AN AMNIOCENTESIS BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT CAUSES YOU TO ABORT THE FETUS. TIANA IS MY LAST AND SHE IS NUMBER SEVEN. SOME PEOPLE HAD NEGATIVE THINGS TO SAY AND THEN OTHERS CONGRATULATED ME. SOME EVEN STATED THAT THEY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A BIG FAMILY ALSO. NOW WHEN PEOPLE SEE ME WITH MY BABY THEY ASK IS SHE MY GRANDBABY. I LAUGH AND TELL THEM NO SHE IS MY BABY. THE RECOVERY WAS GOOD. I HAD A C-SECTION AND WE WENT HOME IN THREE DAYS. I HAD HER JULY 2, 2005 WE WENT HOME JULY 5TH. HOPE MY STORY HELP ENCOURAGE YOU BECAUSE OUR BABIES ARE A BLESSING FROM GOD. MY MOM HAD ME AT FORTY FIVE YEARS OLD.

My wife had our first child when she was 45. We're trying again, but its pretty difficult. I think it has made us value being parents even more because we got all of our party years and career goals accomplished earlier in life.

there is also a large community of older parents out there. One good resource we've found to meet people like ourselves is MatchingMoms.org

not me, but my mother was 41 when she had my last sister... she said that it was a bit more draining while being preg. I remember my family members disapproval of the pregnancy and that it would come out weird or she would miscarraige... they were wrong... so forget what people say... and her recovery was just like the others... went smoothly...

Congrats about your pregnancy and have fun!!!!
