There is no concrete answer to this question. But for an example let's use Europe before the outbreak of WW2. Hitler(a doer) would get away with aggressive act after aggressive act, despite treaties and alliances and a whole league of nations designed to stop this. The Western Allies were thinkers, trying to set up an alliance among the other powers to stop him, but never able to negotiate effectively with the Russians. So Hitler met with great success at first. However, his plans counted on a short war, and he eventually crumbled. The lesson here is: Doers may succeed for a short or even long while, but eventually their lack of long range plans will destroy them. And thinkers may keep themselves out of danger for a while, but eventually the moment of truth, of "do or die," will be upon them.

These days you need to be both. The Action Thinker

The most effective people I've ever met are the ones that have an idea and make something happen immediately to put that idea into action.

Sometimes it's as simple as making a phone call. Other times it requires a little more planning.

The action thinker decides what needs to happen and what action is needed to take to make the next step. He then finds do-ers to complete the tasks necessary to complete his objective.

Be both, It'll make you a better person and enhance your relationships.

People love smart thinkers who move, and impacting positive change upon everything they come in contact with whenever possible. It's a lot of work, but the harder you try the better you get.

good question to ask! for me, i prefer to do things- although i do consider myself to be a bit of a thinker too. actions speak louder than words as we would say and that is so true. i mean, its one thing talking about it, but to do it is another matter altogether.
to think means you are considering what your next step would be. you're not jumping right in it and you're not rushing it either. thinking also means contemplating and by contemplating you want to look at things from all angles, as opposed to one. therefore, its better to think first before you act

thinker without action (doing it) is full of bulls**t, it's an act of mind masturbation.
Doer without thinking is like a sailor go sailing without a plan/map.
