Pride turns to vanity when you become obsessed with your appearance.

I think pride and vanity are totally different things here altogether. Pride in the way you look will be making sure you are well-put together whereas vanity will be checking the mirror every 5 minutes.

when you can't pass a mirror without stopping for five minutes to check your hair or make up and you start talking to yourself in the mirror!
