the heat caused the peels to split, kind of like roasting a tomato. there is liquid in a tomato and when it gets hot the liquid expands thus breaking the skin.

Heat will cause the skin of a tomato to split open it is caused by over exposure to the sun. watering does not have any effect on this. It Is just like when you can tomato's when the skin gets hot they split open and begin to peel.

The only thing that would help this is some shad during the hottest part of the day.

tomatoes split open because they are allowed to dry out (even somewhat) and then get a lot of rain or water and they actually absorb to much water at one time so they bust. tomatoes really should never dry out even a little. they are supposed to stay moist at all times. now i live in west texas with 100 degree temps, dry wind and little rain so unless you use a drip system, that is practically impossible. i use a hose sprayer so i have to water my tomatoes all the time in the summer. you also have to be sure and water the whole root system which can reach 4 feet from the main stem of your plant. hope that helps. my mom had the same problem because she thinks all plants need to dry out a bit but i finally got her to water correctly and now her tomatoes are doing great.

great answer Angel! From my gardening adventure, i'll assert that sort performs a huge area! i'm an inconsistent waterer, and yet my red tomotos and early female (or extremely female in case you'll discover them) finally end up wonderful. This 365 days I planted some miscellaneous varieties given to me with the help of a neighbour, and that i have thrown out all the tomotos from those flowers. in case you improve collosal varieties, or any truly great tomato, you've splitting themes except you're really in line with watering and get precisely the right moist/dry stability.

blight. try putting a little epsom salt (just a sprinkle) around the plant and water it really good. It should take care of your problem. Some varieties of tomatoes are more resistant to blight than others. For example, West Virginia Centennial tomatoes are blight resistant and do not have this problem regardless of growing conditions.

TOMATO'S need watering regularly ,

but , if they get uneven watering ,
( too much at one time)
they will split ,
especially when the temperature is high

water little and often ,

don't forget the weekly feed !!
