i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

Most likely an unfortunate accident. He was pierced in the heart by the stingray barb. The manager says Irwin pulled the stingray barb from his chest. Rescuers attempted to resuscitate Irwin for 30 minutes. A videotape of well known Australian "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin showed him pulling a deadly stingray barb from his chest just before he died.

Condolences to this family and relatives.

I'll give you a real answer... he died doing what he loved the most!!!...
Besides all the TV show, he was a serious naturalist, a dedicated conservationist and a loving father and husband.
He died in an unusual way but he was an unusual man anyway...
He was authentic, which is much more than what many can say about our selves or anyone we know...
I feel sorry for his family, for the Australian Zoo, for the daily fight on conservation around the world... but not for him... he had a nice quick death in his environment... with his passion... he just when up and finish as he liked to begin...

He was filming some documentary under water in Melbourne, and he swam too close to a stingray fish. The poisonous thorn on its tail stung him right through the heart. His 8 yr old daughter was with him at the time, but I guess she was all right.

He got speared in the heart by a stingray. I feel sorry for him, he wasn't doing anything dangerous either, just swimming and filming. It was kinda a freak thing. He wasn't attempting to prokoke the animal or anything.

Like they said above, stingray thorn through the heart. They showed the actual thorn on TV. It had to have been at least a foot long!

He was swimming around filming a documentary when a sting ray came up out of the sand and stabbed him in the heart. He pulled it out and died all in one swift second. He will be missed.

Obviously you are trying to keep the subject of Irwin fresh but it's now old news. You know full well how he died. It's time to move from this now stale story. Peace to Irwin's family. Period.
