I have six tattoos and love them. I have never regretted getting any of them. If you know what you want, but are not sure where to put it, go to the tattoo artist and have he or she go ahead and put the stencil on the area and see what you think. If you don't like the placement, the artist can just wipe it off and place it somewhere else. They can also make the design bigger or smaller depending on what you think looks best and what they think looks best. My tatts are on the top of my left foot, around my right ankle and onto the top of my right foot, my low back, the back of neck and two above my left breast. They are very addicting...=)

I say inside of ankle. Lower back tattoos are too common. Don't get me wrong, inside of the ankle is gonna hurt like hell, but then again, it doesn't really matter where you getit. It still hurts. I have 2 and love them. I have never wanted them removed and don't think I ever will. I was 18 when I got my 1st one and I'm 26 now, so it's been a few years. I just got my second one this summer (back in May, I think) One is on the outside of my left calf and one is on my right shoulder (upper back.) If this is your first one, pick something small so it doesn't take too long. Get it somewhere you can cover it up if you decide you don't like it. Just remember, this is permanent. Be sure it's what you want before you get it.

as much i positive adore a person whose body is completely covered with tattoos, i'd have to say no.
medically, they are just not a great idea.
1. you could get skin lesions (cancer, infection, etc.) and not know it because they are camouflaged
2. wanna baby? want epidural pain block? sorry! most docs will not do the procedure if you have a tattoo there because of various risks associated with the dye, etc.
3. need a medical test, treatment? gee, maybe they won't let you in the imagining machine because some of your dyes are metallic. now what?
4. might you change your mind about the tattoo? think it's ugly because it stretched, faded, blurred, turned a funky black, or maybe the design reminds you of a time in your life you want to forget?
5. alternatives exist!!! today's technology has amazing temporary tattoos that you can have custom made, should you desire. these tattoos can last days or even weeks. they are removed with alcohol/acetone based potions and then you have a blank spot and can start all over again.
good luck, whatever you decide. it's still your physique and your decision. be you, but be comfortable with you.

I got my first 2 on my lower back almost 7 years ago. Its not as easy to take care of there unless you are extremely flexible and can contort to see that area, or if you have someone who will help with that, but it looks so sexy. I am planning on getting another one there as well. either place would be fine, depending on what you want, and how big it will be.
Its basically up to you on what and where. just make sure you think about it long and hard before you get it. I thought about it for almost 6 months before I went to get it. That way I could save up to get it and I was sure I was geting exactly what I wanted, where I wanted it. Also, before you go to get it done, check out the place where you would be getting it done. Ask how they clean their needles (make sure they use an autoclave or brand new needles every time) Ask how things are sterilized. Ask if you can watch someone get one done (as long as its ok with the person getting it done too)
As for it hurting, it all depends on where you get it done. mine was on my lower back, and to me, it ickled, but I am extremely ticklish to begin with. if it goes over or near bones, that might hurt more (less padding from the skin and fat cells)
Good luck, and hope it turns out how you want.
As for the dr's not doing epidurals if you have one on your lower back, that is not true. I have been pregnant twice since then, had an epidural for other reasons more recently (had major surgery - removed a kidney) and the doctors had no problems at all. My main concern was when I was in the hospital, I had to have a nefrectomy tube inserted in my back, and it was really close to where my tat is. they kept the tube as far from my tat as they could and not ruin it (still good too....just a scar or two to add to it) Same for the medical treatment. I had to have many m,any many CAT scans and MRIs and EKG's they were all fine. nothing happened. and besides, Mythbusters proved that wrong :)

I love tattoos, I have two- one lower back and one on the back of my shoulder. I would recommend one to anybody, just make sure that you put it in a place that can be covered should the occasion call for it, or so that it isn't so obvious when you are older. Taking that into consideration, I would go with the lower back in your case. Have fun!!!!

If this is your first tattoo...go for the back...less painful. There is very little fat on your ankle and going over the bones and tendons hurts ( I have one there ). The back has more meat on it and isn't as painful ( have on there too ).
Just make sure it is something you will want forever...get something meaningful to you.

Well-thought-out and planned tattoos are lovely.
Getting one just to get one, no. Getting flash off the wall because one couldn't put some thought into it, no.
You might want to check out the tattoo section on http://www.bmezine.com for some experiences with various locations for tattoos.

Maybe a small tastefully done rose on the ankle would be OK. Large tats, especially on the arms, back, or boobs are ugly. Remember, the butterfly you have on your breast today will become a big ugly Condor tomorrow.

I have one on my ankle and it wasn't that bad getting it there. I've heard that the lower back is more painful.

I would go for the lower back... you can't see it as much and there is less of a chance that you will get tired of it if you can't see it... also the back hurts...
Don't listen to those that say you will regret it.. and not to get it... because you only live once... and if it has meaning to you will love it always....
