The mouth of Sauron shows Gandalf and Aragorn the mithril coat and mentions they got it from a halfling in Mordor. If so, why didn't Sauron clue in and figure out their plan and then put permanent guard on Mount Doom?

It makes more sense in the book, but the film has changed a few points. In the book.... Sauron believes Pippin has the ring and Sauraman has Pippin. They were only supposed to be two hobbits in the Fellowship not four - this was an important point in the book but this was a very minor point in the film. Pippin stares into the Palantir that Sauraman has and Sauron knows that Sauraman is pursuing the ring also. There is also the disbelief that such a small creature could pose a threat - as ripped off in Star Wars

I always thought that Sauron believed Frodo to be dead. The Orcs tooks the coat off of him after believing him to be dead/catatonic, before he escaped with Sam from Cirith Ungol. Thus, the coat would have been given to Sauron in that time by Shagrat stating he was dead.

i think that Sauron it's a moron.maybe what he wanted was to deceive Gandalf and Aragorn into beleiving that Frodo was dead so the armies of the west surrender.plus everytime[i think it's in the book] he's still looking for the ring and finds out the ring was under his eye too late, right?
