Ive linked my laptop, and desktop (through netgear router) and set up a home network. I can access shared documents, including the bareshare downloads file (C:my dowloads) to get music from the desktop to play on the laptop.
However, only some tracks play (the same one's with either windows media player, or Creative media player) and noticeably, these are the ones without track duration times, extra details.
The details are present, (mostly) on the desktop computer. Even tracks (only a few) that dont have extended info, play on the desktop.
Why is some extended info missing when accessed via network, and why wont these tracks play? its about 50% of the 100 or so tracks

Thanks so far, its not the bit rate, playable files vary from 128 to 256. I changed view to include cpyright and protected views. Protected said no on all, copyright, blank on all.
The tracks "load" onto the player, and display title, but nothing happens!

My guess would be that access to a file over a network is much slower that access to a file that is one that PCs hard drive. The file may be coming to the player so slowly that it does not have time to get and display the information. It is barely getting the music in time to keep it playing. Trying move a couple of the songs to the hard drive of the other machine and see if the problem goes away. (I know, it doesn't fix the probelm, but at least you know the cause.)

My guess on this is that those missing info and track problem is unrelated to the network, the music files may have DRM locked to one machine or designed not accessed by network but legally streamed to players, but I do agree with dewcoon's suggestion of copying the files to see what happens, least this action can clear up few things.

Hi Ben,

Compare the bitrate (128kbps or 256kbps for example) of the tracks. If the highest bitrate tracks do not play, then you have your answer. You can downsample the tracks to a lower bitrate with many utilities such as mp3cutter.

I hope this helps you.
