My friend is a health care assistant at out local hospital (East Anglia) and reckons she gets paid a whopping £26 a hour on a bank holiday. She is not a fully qualified nurse or anything which is why I am so so shocked. She works on the bank so she covers for people who are ill etc.....Is she telling me porkies or do our ever so cash strapped NHS acually pay UNQUALIFIED staff £26 a hour? Thanks.

I would think they(the hospital) would have to check references. I think a health care assistant gets more quid than a carer, so I think 26 is pretty normal. But, Yes, You have to be qualified.

I am not surprised that government pay wages that have no relation to the competition. What do government care if they lose money? They just hit up the taxpayer.
