Modern democracy is the Daughter of revolutions.In Europe Industrial revolution got rid of Jaws of church and feudal system,French revolution brought the beginning of the end of power of Royalty although shame fully it exist in many parts of the world for the personal interest of many democratic societies Saudi Arabia is prime example.The revolution of Non violence and non co operation started by Mahatma Gandhi created the biggest democracy India.

The role of revolution is to bring about true democracy. The "democracies" we see these days are more accurately described as oligarchy, aristocracy, socialism, etc, etc

Socrates has described the following life cycle of the style of governing

Monarchy which will eventually decay to become tyranny
Tyranny is deposed & replaced by Aristocracy which in turn decays to become oligarchy
Oligarchy is then deposed & replaced by democracy which in a decadent state is described as mob rule.
Out of the chaos of mob rule will rise monarchy/dictatorship & the cycle continues.

In modern democracy there is no need for revolution; anything shall be sorted out by peaceful means.
