I haven't read any of them, but I was wondering, which book is best to start with? Do I need to start with A is for Alibi? I have read reviews and it seems like there are better books in the series.

A is for Alibi isn't necessarily the best book, but since the series is in chronological order and there is very little time between books it would be best to read them in order.

read any you want in any order. Each book kind of recaptures what has gone on in the main character's life. Series books are like this. The author usually devotes a chapter to what has gone on before in other books and Sue Grafton is no exception. I enjoy her books, but they are not a series where you have to begin with A.

Well, the main character is the same in all of the novels. So it would be a good idea to start with A for Alibi.

I didn't read them in order because I didn't realise that they were a series. On the other hand if you can read them in order then why not? It is true that some are better than others but you will probably want to go back and read the others in the end.
