Plain,simple and short. Magna Carta-Was when a group of determined barons forced King John @ Runnymede in 1215 to sign a charter which is a city's basic law,it's constitution a writer grants of authority from the king. And those barons were not playing with the king. If he didn't sign it probably would have been off with his head.

The Magna Carta was signed by King John after he was defeated in battle by revolting lords, who were angry with the way that he was using his power. The document created Parliament, and acknowledged the rights of the lords.

It was the establishing of the idea that no one was above the law. Even the monarch was subject to a law of men rather than just devine law. Signed in 1215.
It was quickly disavowed by King John and in practice the concept was was not fully established in mother England until the Glorious Revolution in 1689.
