OK, like 7 years ago, I used to live in another city, and when I changed in a gym locker room, most guys would, at some point, be naked. Usually, guys would typically face away from the crowd, and put on their skivvies.

Then I moved to San Diego. Here, there are a good number of guys who keep their towels on and slip their underwear on before removing the towel.

The only two variables I can see are time (1999 vs 2006) or the change in cities.

It's not like I'm disappointed in not seeing his weiner or anything. I'm just an observational person, and when I notice a change in behavior, I tend to wonder why.

This "technique" is similar to what girls do at the beach. I have some theories, but would rather hear yours first.

Any ideas?

At my gym I am naked in the locker room. In high school (less than 10 yrs ago) we were all naked after gym... Even as a kid in the 80's if i were changing out of my underwear or into it i would be naked at some point. But I have noticed more and more people expressing modesty in these types of settings.... Im not into weiners either but I really dont care about who sees mine after I take a shower nor can I understand why anyone else would...

I think it comes down to how people were raised and maybe it just so happens when you are at the gym there are more people who were not raised in naked households.

It could also be that there has been a greater emphasis on luxury in our society within the last decade and more people are being catered to, and given privacy in all aspects of life so therefore want it in the gym...

just some thoughts

In 1999 people didn't have cell phone cameras and there weren't any perverts hanging out in locker rooms with hidden camcorders filming everything and putting it up on some skanky website.

I personally won't even use a dressing room any more. They just caught some pervert in my local Target taking photos of women.

I don't blame anyone for not taking off their towel. They just don't want to take the chance of having their nude pic posted all over the internet.

I feel ya. I took swimming in college early eighties and we would shower with our trunks on, change in a private area or if space was limited would do the towel thing.

San Diego...are you kidding me? The male shyness should be obvious to anyone stateside.

The females are more modest as a rule everywhere, though that is rapidly declining....sigh

They are possibly insecure about their penis size or afraid of being checked out by another male.
