If there is a profession that you feel strongly or passionate about, you should follow that. The 'compensation' that comes from working at a position you love is worth more than money in the long term. If your heart is in what you do, you are likely to be more productive and earn more.
Money is very overrated and has very little to do with happiness. Money can actually become a burden. This is all contrary to what the US and Western cultures brainwash us with. With too much money you end up buying things you don't need and having things you must look after.
Money is not all that its cracked up to be.
