But, if your DL is not valid the insurance will be invalid, and you're runnig the risk of prosecution if you get caught.

I've just read all the "yes they do" answers. Are you really all saying that if I go to hire a car in Swalahathara in Outer Mottipodiaze they have a direct computer connection to DVLA ?

My local hire company in the UK just photocopy it when I go and hire a lorry or car, they don't check it ( I agree they would check if something went wrong - but that wasn't the question )

probably not as they don't even seem to check that their cars are roadworthy, most of them wouldn't pass an mot in Britain
