Do you tell your real name?

I'm wondering why some people lie about their name especially when they are in the bar or sauna. And is it okayed?

I am just me I don't use false names in real life and I don't talk to strangers in a sauna. (they might think I am gay) In the bar I only use my first name. Don't want these people calling me because they might be psycho's. Online I generally give my real name just before I will give you my phone number.

Absolutely...and it is okayed ...in bars, with a one night stand, yes, it is popular not to give your first name, especially if a man/woman is married. As long as it's understood that both parties are really only after some sex, then no one honestly cares wtf your name is. And it's a great opportunity to go with a sexier name, too, if you want.

Especially in bath houses!! No one gives a real name, sometimes it's really really obvious. Names like "Bambi Q" for instance, don't often show up on boys birth certificates. But if you're going to these places for anonymous sex, then...come on, it's anonymous sex!
Do you give a flying f*** what anyones' name is? Unless you're looking for more than that, in which case, you're looking in the wrong place. And you need to let people know.

I use fake names all the time but only because its fun. Not just in bars or on-line but in life in general. I almost always use some form of my real name on-line. If I really like someone I will tell them my real name. I don't do it to hide anything but mainly because I like to come up with funny names to entertain myself. For the Longest time I used Anastasia Beverhousen (From Karen on Will and Grace) but know one ever believed me. It was a hoot to see the look on peoples faces at like Starbucks when they asked my name. Because I'm a bear and pretty butch. grrrr

I always say my real first name. I never go to saunas, but until you are sure of someone you should never give out too much information

Of course. I have nothing to fear so long as I am not doing anything wrong. My full name isn't required of casual acquaintances and I speak to every one who says hello. I'm not homophobically unfriendly as some seem to be nor am I frightened of being accused/thought of as "gay". I don't "do" anonymous hookups and have no reason to go to places where it is prevalent but even if I had a legitimate reason to go there, I would see no reason to lie.

Lying is not ok. If you don't want to give your name, don't.
