You mean, are we on the road to a totalitarian gov't? It needn't be communist to be a police state. There are some who say we're on that slippery slope. Signs: the NSA eavesdropping is massive, the US holds prisoners for years without charges, then seeks to change the definition of a "fair trial", certain radio and TV outlets are propaganda machines for the government, corruption of officials is more rampant (e.g. Abramoff and no bid contracts for Iraq reconstruction). We are expected to give up liberties and constitutional rights without any explanation as to why or how repressive methods will be more effective than competent use of current laws and law enforcement. Criticising the government is said to be unpatriotic, anti-American.

No political police would arrest you for posting that question and national security is just that it is about making nation secure not about being secret political police. We are not doning things like thre KGB did in the USSR or like the Chinese do now. WHen was the last ime you heard of someone being dragged out of their home in the middle of the night because they critcized the government here?

No,it can't...Most of the people who were doing political police used to report the people who had something bad to say about communism, about the leader...Those people were no threat to no one...It had nothing to do with national security...

Every Democratic society throughout history has had to give up some liberties,in times of crisis, in order to preserve the existence of the overall government. No matter what you all think Radical Islam is a threat to the USA.
